Health Centre service change due to staff shortage

Interior Health advises residents of the following changes to service at the Elkford Health Centre during the week of July 18 due to a temporary shortage of nursing and support staff at the site.

The emergency department will be closed Tuesday, July 19; X-ray service will not be available on July 18, 19 and 22; and there will be no lab collection service on July 19.

During these times, residents should take note of the following:

– In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

– Go to the emergency department in Sparwood (8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week). Alternate lab and x-ray services are also available in Sparwood (Monday to Friday).

– Visit the emergency department in Fernie (24/7 service) after 7 p.m. when Sparwood is closed.

If individuals are unsure about what services they require, call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1.
The toll-free line provides 24-hour, confidential health information and advice from a registered nurse.

The Medical Clinic and scheduled physician services in Elkford are not affected, and will remain open during regular hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday).

Interior Health regrets these temporary changes to usual service.
