Extensive damage from Jaffray structure fire
Members of the South Country Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in Jaffray Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7).
“The homeowners took quick action and had the fire out when we arrived; however, our crews remained on scene to ensure the fire had not spread and that it was fully extinguished,” explained Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley.
A total of 10 firefighters responded to the fire, which had extended into the roof of the structure.
“While the homeowners had pulled back the roof, these fires can be complex as they can extend into areas that aren’t visible, so our crews worked diligently to ensure the fire hadn’t spread further,” Hockley said.
Although the fire was quickly confined and contained, the home’s roof and trusses sustained extensive damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, it is not considered suspicious in nature.
