City and CUPE Local 2093 ratify new collective agreement

The City of Fernie and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 2093, this morning announced they have reached a new collective agreement.

This four-year contract offers wage increases of five per cent in the first year, and three per cent in the following three years, to all members, improved benefits for employees, and increased flexibility in scheduling.

“This agreement reflects the strong partnership between the city and our dedicated workforce. We’re pleased to have reached a fair and forward-looking contract that supports our employees while ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality services to our community,” said Mayor Nic Milligan.

“I want to thank both bargaining teams for their respectful and constructive approach throughout the process.”

This four-year agreement is retroactive to a start date of March 1, 2024, and will be in effect until February 29, 2028.

“The membership is happy to have finalized a new Collective Agreement which represents our long-term commitment to serving the Fernie community,” said Franck Gimard, President of CUPE Local 2093, adding “I’d like to thank the bargaining team for their hard work and contribution to this positive outcome.”

CUPE Local 2093 represents over 115 municipal workers who provide year-round and seasonal services to the City of Fernie.
