City responds regarding collective bargaining

Letter to the Editor

The City of Fernie values the hard work and dedication of its employees.

In response to the Letter to the Editor in e-KNOW, the city provides the following facts:

The City of Fernie presented our final offer to the Union on September 29, which included 9.25% in wage increases over five years, retroactive to March 1, 2015, and increased health benefits.

The city and union are only apart on one issue:
Currently, changes to work schedules must be agreed to by the union.

The city proposes that scheduling changes should be agreed to by the employee and their supervisor at the worksite and employees may request union representation if required.

We ask the union to accept our final offer at their upcoming meeting on November 9 and avoid a lengthy strike.
