City budget survey closes Nov. 14

City of Fernie council is once again seeking public input into the development of the annual budget.

“We are asking the public to let us know what’s important to you in order to inform a plan that will provide sustainable services and infrastructure that citizens expect while remaining within current funding constraints,” said Mayor Mary Giuliano. “We’re asking the public to complete a short Budget Survey to help shape and inform the 2017 budget.”

Municipalities strive to provide satisfactory Sustainable Service Delivery by maximizing benefits and minimizing risks and costs to acquire, operate, maintain and replace assets, Giuliano said.

“Our list of services and assets are extensive: land development, protective services, recreation parks, trails, community facilities, roads, water and sewer systems, and the list goes on. A major challenge is sourcing sufficient funds to maintain services and repair or replace our aging assets,” she explained.

“Council is working hard to establish a budget that meets community needs in the most fiscally responsible way possible,” Giuliano said, adding, “Please encourage your family and friends to provide input. Working with our community, we can achieve the best possible plan for the future.”

The survey deadline has been extended to November 14.
