Fernie Fire Rescue members are currently undergoing ice rescue training, the City of Fernie reported today.

“Anyone considering venturing out on ice-covered bodies of water should do so with an experienced outdoor enthusiast who is familiar with local conditions and water currents,” the city noted on social media.

Children should not play on or near ice-covered bodies of water unless supervised by an experienced, safety-conscious person.

“No ice is safe ice,” says Fernie Fire Rescue. “Venturing out onto unsafe ice puts your life and the lives of first responders at risk.”
