Final remediation work at Fernie Arena to begin
The City of Fernie would like to advise residents that WorkSafeBC has released the following public information regarding the ongoing investigation at Fernie Memorial Arena.
WorkSafeBC has been working in conjunction with the RCMP and Technical Safety BC to determine the cause of the tragedy that occurred at the Fernie Memorial Arena.
Over the next few weeks, WorkSafeBC will be overseeing final remediation of some of the equipment within the site and residents may observe increased activity.
It is possible that some residents may hear noise (e.g., alarms) and detect odours at nuisance levels near the Fernie Memorial Arena during some of these activities.
There will not be any impact or hazard to the community-at-large during these activities. Substantial resources such as 24-hour security and atmospheric monitoring have been installed and will remain in place at the site for the duration of the work being performed.
It is the goal of WorkSafeBC to ensure that any further impact to you from these activities is minimized and that every effort is made to ensure this process is conducted with the highest regard to health and safety for the workers and residents in your community.
