The City of Fernie this afternoon advised that due to the high and fast-moving Elk River and Coal Creek, areas of the James White Park trail system have been closed.

“Please watch for signage. For your safety, stay off trails that have been marked by city crews. Trails can be unstable due to water flowing underneath them making them weak. We remind residents to use caution around river and creek banks and heed signage,” the city stated on social media.

“Crews will monitor the trails over the weekend. Thank you for your cooperation.”
