Mia Kelly hitting the stage in Fernie Sept. 28

Award-winning folk artist Mia Kelly recently released her new single, “Sea to the Moon,” featuring UK singer-songwriter Blair Dunlop. Produced by Connor Seidel (Charlotte Cardin, Half Moon Run, Leif Vollebekk), the song is a gut-wrenching folk-pop ballad about unrequited love.

The track was co-written with Blair during their recent tour and showcases Mia’s signature lyrical intimacy and emotional depth.
What began as a morning singalong of Gillian Welch’s “Look at Miss Ohio” quickly spilled into the line, “Between you & me & the dogs in the room,” a confession so intimate it begged to be written.

“This song feels to me like a conversation,” Mia explained. “All the things you’d say when telling someone you’ve been close to for years that you’re in love with them, knowing those feelings aren’t reciprocated.”

Joining Connor at his studio, The Treehouse, just north of Montréal, “Sea to the Moon” thrives in its simplicity. “Working with Connor was a dream in every way,” Mia shares. “We knew we wanted it to be relatively simple production-wise and that the hook would take us most of the way, but we found a few gems that make it come alive.”

Featuring Vincent Ott’s sweeping string arrangement, Olivier Fairfield’s subtle percussion, and Dunlops warm harmonies, the track maintains a raw honesty that is timeless, yearning, and unforgettable.

Later this month, Mia and Blair will reunite for a run of dates in Western Canada, Ontario and Québec beginning September 24, with a show at Knox on 2nd in Fernie on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Mia Kelly is from Gatineau, Quebec and has been making her mark on the Canadian folk music scene with a distinctive blend of folk, rock, and blues.

Since releasing her debut album Garden Through The War (2022), she has been recognized as a poetic lyricist with a powerful and versatile voice. Known for her ability to weave the stories of those around her into her music, Mia is an imaginative storyteller who channels raw, vulnerable emotion through expertly crafted songs.

Her sophomore album, To Be Clear (2024), co-produced with fellow songwriter Jim Bryson (The Tragically Hip, Kathleen Edwards), received critical acclaim worldwide. The record featured “Meaning Well,” nominated for Single of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, and went on to earn four 2025 Capital Music Awards nominations. Mia took home Single of the Year for “Bonefish Boys” and Video of the Year for “Si j’étais franche.”

Garden Through the War explored themes of resilience and growth following hardship and was recognized by the SOCAN Foundation. Mia was named Emerging Artist of the Year by Culture Outaouais, represented Canada as a finalist at the 2023 Jeux de la Francophonie in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and was awarded both Young Performer of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Her music has been featured in La Presse, Americana UK, the Ottawa Citizen, Radio-Canada, Roots Music Canada, Le Droit, Châtelaine, CKUA, SiriusXM North Americana, The Scene Calgary, CBC, and more.
