November shutdown needed for arena repairs: city
The upgrades and replacements at the Fernie Memorial Arena are well under-way.
The new ice plant will be delivered on August 8 and staff training will take place shortly after.
Crews have been working diligently at preparing the arena for a safe opening on September 10.
Unfortunately, due to unanticipated scheduling requirements associated with the repair of the roof trusses, there will be an interruption of operations at the arena for a four-week period in November, the City of Fernie reported on its Facebook page today.
“During the shutdown, the arena will be closed to the public and all user groups. The city hosted a stakeholder meeting on August 1 to discuss scheduling with the impacted groups and identified alternative options for planned activities during the interruption,” the city outlined.
“The city is committed to the safety of the public and our staff and appreciate the understanding of the short interruption. We will provide detailed dates and start up information in the coming weeks.”
