On Monday evening (Dec. 12) before the City of Fernie regular meeting of council, Mayor Mary Giuliano presented the George Majic Spiritus Award to Linda Socher.

She accepted on behalf of her late husband Heiko, who passed away recently.

“Heiko is a true Fernie legend. He and Linda were instrumental in turning a small ski hill into an international one. He was a great community contributor; generous and unassuming. It was sad to see him go. He made a huge impact on our area,” Giuliano stated.
