Winter storm warning for Elk Valley

Environment Canada has this afternoon (March 6) issued a winter storm warning for the Elk Valley.

Significant amounts of snow are expected.

A Pacific weather system is forecast to bring heavy snow to Elk Valley beginning tonight and continue on Saturday. Total snowfall accumulations are expected to be around 20 to 30 cm with the highest amounts near Fernie. The heavy snow will taper off Saturday night.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop,” Environment Canada stated.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
