Ghostriders’ home game moved to Sparwood

Sparwood Recreation and Leisure Centre will be home ice for the Fernie Ghostriders for this Saturday’s (Oct. 21) Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) game against the Spokane Braves.

The team will play all future games in Sparwood until further notice, following the three-person fatality ammonia incident at the Fernie Memorial Arena Oct. 17.

“The board, staff and players of the Fernie Ghostriders send their heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of those lost in the incident at the Fernie Memorial Arena today. We are deeply saddened by the news, and our thoughts and love are with you. The facility was closed at the time and no players or staff were injured in this tragic event,” the Ghostriders noted on their Facebook page Oct. 17.

The Riders are in Invermere to take on the Columbia Valley Rockies Friday night, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena.

The next scheduled game in Fernie is Nov. 3 when the Kimberley Dynamiters come to town.
