Montana citizen confirmed killed in June 20 crash
Elk Valley Regional RCMP can now confirm that the deceased person involved in the June 20 fatal vehicle collision along Highway 3 at Kubinec Road is a 40-year-old US citizen from Big Fork, Montana.
The deceased had been driving a black four door 2015 Chevrolet Cruze with Montana licence plates eastbound along Highway 3 when he was involved in a two-vehicle collision.
“The victim had been travelling from the US/Canada border to Calgary to see his girlfriend for a visit. His girlfriend attended near the accident location after the incident. She was supported by Elk Valley RCMP members on scene as well as RCMP Victim Services and Elk Valley Hospital. The victim’s family was notified by RCMP working through our US Embassy contacts in Vancouver and have since spoken with our officers,” said S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
“The suspect driver, a 49-year-old woman from Okotoks, Alberta, is believed to have been travelling from that community westbound along Highway 3 in a grey 2023 GMC Yukon with Alberta licence plates. Elk Valley RCMP has received witness information that a vehicle similar to the one involved in the incident had been seen driving erratically near Blairmore Alberta. The hospital had made contact with her family and they have since spoken with Elk Valley RCMP.”
Police are seeking any additional witness or dash camera evidence which may show or give light to the driving behaviour of either vehicle prior to the collision.
