Physicians Group encourages adults to get vaccine

By Elk Valley Physicians Group

Canada has never faced a pandemic before where we have the ability to stem the tide of infections with mass vaccination roll out in a relatively short period of time.

In a province of over five million people, officials are doing their best to get vaccines into arms in a timely and fair fashion.

Locally, Interior Health is operating mass vaccination clinics for COVID-19 (staffed by nurses and doctors) in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford where healthcare professionals are vaccinating community members according to eligibility. This is determined by the age of the client or certain medical conditions that determine them to be “clinically extremely vulnerable”.

In order for the province to understand how many vaccines we need in the Elk Valley, they are relying on everyone registering their interest in being vaccinated. The registration process is VERY simple and can be done online or by phone.

Once you have registered you will be notified by text message or email once you are eligible to book an appointment.

Register online here.

To register by PHONE, call: 1-833-838-2323. Phone line is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (PDT). Translators are available.

We encourage you to PLEASE register as soon as possible. If the province sees that our community is needing and wanting thousands of vaccines, they will send the appropriate number to us as the vaccine supply allows.

We strongly encourage all adults to get the Covid vaccine. They are safe and very effective. The vaccine reaches efficacy at 14 days after your first shot. These vaccines are effective at preventing hospitalization and death from COVID.

They are safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding. They are approved for all adults at this time.

All of the physicians have been vaccinated. It is our responsibility as a community to protect our families, our friends, our colleagues, our neighbours, our children and grandchildren. Especially children who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.

Herd immunity will only be achieved by vaccination.

This disease is affecting every part of our lives, and the more people get vaccinated, the faster we can return to usual activities.

We understand some people have concerns or questions about vaccines and we are very happy speak with you regarding any concerns you may have.

Please call your physician’s office to book a phone appointment to discuss the COVID-19 vaccine if you have questions.
