RCMP assist BC Ambulance on Lake Koocanusa
On July 10 at 11:39 a.m., Elk Valley Regional RCMP was called on to assist BC Ambulance Service with accessing a patient who was currently on Lake Koocanusa in the South Country near Grasmere.
Elk Valley officers, who were already on their way to the lake as part of our South Country Patrol program, attended and transported the EHS paramedics to the houseboat where a youth patient was currently staying with his parents and having a concerning medical issue.
The RCMP then completed transport of the youth and his mother to the shore with BC Ambulance to allow for treatment at an area hospital.
“Elk Valley Regional RCMP recognizes the need for more proactive enforcement in the South Country and, like last year, is completing regular and sporadic boat patrols in order to ensure the safe use of our waterways and lakes,” said S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
“Our vessel is currently moored at a local site on Lake Koocanusa for ease of access and response. Further patrols are done through the week by officers on the roadways and campsites, working to enforce applicable legislation and improve safety in the South Country.”
