Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) was asked to assist Sparwood SAR at around midnight last night in the rescue of an injured camper.

The young woman, from Lethbridge, Alberta, was camping in the Alexander Creek area when she sustained second and third degree burns from hot liquids.

Sparwood SAR responded with a ground team overnight, hiking in over four hours and providing first area and stabilising the subject. Fernie SAR flew in at first light to evacuate the woman and hand her over to BC Ambulance Service and then on to the Elk Valley Hospital.
