Semi narrowly misses head-on collision

Elk Valley RCMP searching for suspect vehicle.

On August 30 at approximately 7 p.m., Elk Valley Regional RCMP received a report that a loaded tractor trailer in the 3400 block of Highway 3 near Highway 93 had gone off road right to avoid having a head- on collision with an unidentified black truck heading westbound along the highway.

Dash camera video obtained from the tractor trailer shows the tractor trailer travelling in the slow lane of a passing zone when the black truck is seen to drive into or drift over into the number two lane, resulting in the semi driver taking evasive action to avoid a near head-on collision.

“Fortunately, the tractor trailer remained upright as it goes off road right down a short incline,” reported S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.

“The truck had minor damage, but both driver and passenger were naturally shaken by the close call.”

RCMP are looking to identify the black truck and driver of that same truck.
