Snowfall warning for Elk Valley

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Elk Valley, with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm expected.

“A moist Pacific frontal system will move across southern B.C. today bringing snow to all areas. Snow will continue to intensify through the day as the front approaches. Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm are expected with the higher amounts occurring mainly over higher terrain; 25 cm is also expected over northern sections of Kootenay Lake and near Fernie,” Environment Canada stated.

The snow will end near midnight for most regions as the front moves into Alberta. However, the snow will persist in Elk Valley well after midnight.

There is also a snowfall warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, with 20 to 25 cm expected.

There is a 70% chance of snow in Cranbrook/Kimberley areas.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
