Sparwood bank robbery suspect arrested
Elk Valley RCMP have arrested an individual allegedly responsible for an armed robbery of the Sparwood Royal Bank Jan. 17.
Elk Valley RCMP report the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect is a 29-year-old male who had recently moved to Sparwood.
At approximately 4:25 p.m. Jan. 17, Elk Valley RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at the RBC in Sparwood.
The suspect, described as a lone Caucasian male, approximately five feet nine inches tall, was wearing a Carhartt jacket with a hoodie, baseball cap with a scarf around his neck. The suspect produced a large hunting knife during the robbery and fled the scene on foot with an unknown amount of cash stuffed in a red and white bag.
No one was injured during the robbery. As a result of the release of still photographs developed from the surveillance footage, Elk Valley RCMP received information from the public and ultimately identified the suspect.
The police investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending against the suspect.
