Dragon Master constable volunteers with Sparwood youth

Elk Valley RCMP Cst. Danny Turner is seen here with students Lachlan Mernigen, Aidan Baytaluke and Mykael Stone, from the Youth Action Sparwood Club, where youth enjoy adventures playing Dungeons and Dragons (D&D).

“D&D is an extra-curricular program for youth, providing them an opportunity to participate in a role-playing game where characters are created and embark on various adventures,” noted Cst. Debra Katerenchuk, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment Media Relations Officer.

“This also encourages youth to coordinate and plan as a team. It not only offers a social benefit to them, but is excellent for building skills and knowledge through literacy, math, probability and game theories.”

Cst. Turner, playing the role as the ‘Dungeon Master,’ volunteers his time with the youth, averaging nine hours per month, including preparations for skill enhancing gaming sessions.
