EKC celebrating five years in Sparwood

The five-year anniversary finale of East Kootenay Community Credit Union’s (EKC) Sparwood branch will be held at the branch on Thursday, November 30 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Everyone, including your dog, is welcome to stop by and get their picture taken with Santa! Other activities include children’s crafts, cake, hot chocolate, dog treats and a draw for a $500 Sparwood StayCation prize supporting Sparwood merchants. Entries for the StayCation draw will be available November 23 to December 18.

Assistant Branch Manager Tracey Brook-Baker notes, “Our success has not been accomplished alone, and thanks to the community for their support. In turn that has enhanced the donations and quality service by EKC which contributes to Sparwood’s prosperity.”

A few ways the Sparwood branch has given back includes donations of over $40,000 to local charities, events, organizations and sports groups. Sparwood Secondary School graduates have been awarded $12,000 in student awards, and six youth have been sponsored to attend The Yes Camp on Vancouver Island.

Financial assistance has been donated for the Pin Draw, EKC Classic Run and the staff have volunteered countless hours at Coal Miners Days. Showcased projects at EKC’s AGM include Sparwood Lions, Elk Valley Cadets, and the Sparwood Skate Park. The staff’s favourite is their ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ held in December.

EKC is different from other financial institutions because our leadership is from a local Board of Directors. Barb Nunes, EKC’s Sparwood Director is passionate about Sparwood and dedicated to the future of EKC. She is an elected by the members and generously gives her time and energy to steer the present and help unfold the future.

At EKC, customers are known as members, and they are the owners. Becoming a member is easy, and everyone is welcome. Employees live and work in the valley. When something happens here, like changes in the economy, it affects everyone, and that is why it only makes common sense that banking decisions are made here.
