ESS volunteers sought by district

Are you interested in volunteering your time during an emergency?

The District of Sparwood is currently seeking Emergency Support Services (ESS) volunteers to assist residents who are forced to leave their homes because of fire, floods, hazmat spills or other emergencies. ESS is a community-based provincial emergency response program designed to assist those affected by an emergency or disaster, whether that be a single house fire or a major disaster involving mass evacuations.

Interested in volunteering but don’t have any experience or knowledge in this field?

Don’t worry we will train you so that you are prepared to respond when needed.

The next course to be offered by Emergency Management BC through the Justice Institute of BC is ‘Managing Walk-In Disaster Volunteers’ on Sunday, May 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the meeting room at Fire Hall #1, 479 Pine Avenue.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to contact the ESS Director, Joyce Kutzner, at 250-425-4752 or by email at [email protected], or show up to the next ESS team meeting on Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at Fire Hall #1, 479 Pine Avenue.
