Farmers’ market season begins June 26 in Sparwood

The Sparwood Farmers’ Market is excited to announce that the first market of the summer season will be on Friday, June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m.

“A staple of summers in Sparwood, we are pleased to be able to continue the farmers’ market for the 2020 season and provide the opportunity for our community to have access to fresh, local food,” said Tracy Kaisner, Board Chair of the Sparwood Market.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

To ensure the safety of staff, vendors and customers, a number of new procedures will be in effect including: a designated entrance and exit; limited entry to allow for physical distancing; hand sanitizing stations; one directional travel; and encouraging people to shop efficiently. The Sparwood Market COVID-19 plan is currently being finalized and will be available on our website soon.

At this time, in accordance with the Province of British Columbia, the Sparwood Market vendors may only sell food which includes fresh, frozen and prepared foods, take-away from food carts and food trucks, and pre-packaged liquor. Approved vendors will receive information on how to safely sell their products and manage their tables. If you would like to become a vendor, please apply online at www.sparwoodmarket.com.

Since non-food vendors and artisans cannot currently participate in onsite markets, they are encouraged to contact the market to be advertised and promoted on our website and Facebook page.

In order to facilitate the new safety protocols, the Sparwood Market will be hiring a Market Ambassador. This person will help direct customers, promote awareness of the new safety protocols, and remind vendors and customers on the importance of physical distancing within the market.

The Board would like to express their gratitude towards the following organizations who have provided support for the 2020 season: Columbia Basin Trust; Elk Valley Thrift Store; Teck Coal Ltd.

While the markets this year will have a different feel than previous ones, the Sparwood Market Board of Directors is excited to be able to provide this service for our community.

The Market will be held every Friday from 4– 7 p.m. and we are looking forward to seeing everyone this summer, from a safe distance.
