Man fined for setting off fireworks

Despite the majority of the fire ban being lifted, a Sparwood man has received a hefty fine under the Wildfire Act.

Elk Valley RCMP recently responded to a mobile home park after a resident in the area complained of hearing gunshots.

Police instead found a large fire into which the occupants of the home were throwing fireworks. The property owner initially denied any wrongdoing. However, as police were speaking with those involved more fireworks started going off from the fire pit. The property owner was fined $1,150 under the Act.

Fireworks along with Class 2 and 3 fires area still restricted in some areas, for more information, residents can go to the Wildfire BC Service website.
