Sparking entrepreneurship in Sparwood
Junior Achievement British Columbia (JABC) is educating youth in business. We do this through providing youth free programs on financial literacy, job readiness and entrepreneurship. We partner with local community members to volunteer to facilitate our programs bringing their real-world experience to the classrooms.
Junior Achievement works to form a partnership between the classroom and the business community to help illustrate to students what a business is and how it operates. Our programs are designed to inspire and excite young Canadians and help them understand the place of business in our world and in their community.
We have been invited by Frank J Mitchell Elementary School in Sparwood to deliver the ‘Our Business World program’ to Ms. Nohels’ class.
Our Business World is a program that is fun and interactive where students discover what it means to be self-employed, learn what entrepreneurship means and what must exist for a business to thrive.
Sydney Salvador, of Fernie, is volunteering her time to facilitate this program to Ms. Nohels’ class today, April 26. Sydney has been an entrepreneur from a young age – you may recognize her as the owner/operator of the Chopstick Truck (pictured above). The gift of her time allows Junior Achievement to offer these programs to Sparwood’s youth free of charge. We thank Sydney for her time, commitment to her community’s youth and dedication to promoting small business.
JABC is a member of JA Canada and part of JA Worldwide (JA), the world’s largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about business. Since 1955, British Columbia schools have relied on JA to inspire and prepare youth to succeed in an ever-changing global economy. In 2016, over 38,000 BC students benefited from JABC programs delivered free of charge by volunteers from local business communities, who bring their real-life experience into the classroom. JABC programs focus on work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship, giving students the confidence and skills they need to become the next generation of business and community leaders.
