Sparwood Council Facts

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the December 21 District of Sparwood council meeting.

BUSINESS

National Licensure

The COVID19 pandemic has identified a significant gap in doctor and nurse mobility throughout Canada. Currently each province has its own regulations to license healthcare professionals. Council approved submitting a motion to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to call for provincial and territorial governments to work with the federal government to explore a constitutionally valid pan-Canadian licensure model.

Sunset Ridge Ski Society

Council approved the Trail Grooming Agreement with Sunset Ridge Ski Society for a six-year term. Under the agreement, the society provides seasonal trail grooming services for the Westwood Trail and Old Ski Hill Trail from November to March in support of cross-country skiing and snow shoeing.

Strategic Priorities – Quarterly Update

Council approved the Strategic Priorities – Quarterly Update. The summary is updated quarterly to community staff progress towards the strategic priorities that were reviewed and updated by Council at the August 31, 2021 council meeting.

Museum Lease Agreement

Council authorized staff to issue notice of disposition for a lease renewal agreement with the Michel-Natal-Sparwood Heritage Society for the Sparwood Museum for a 10-year term. The lease agreement is intended to be brought forward at the January 18 regular meeting for council consideration.

Daycare Lease Agreement

Council authorized staff to issue notice of disposition for a lease renewal agreement with Danielle Charlebois for 156 Spruce Avenue for use as a daycare for five-years. The lease agreement is intended to be brought forward at the January 18 regular meeting for council consideration.

Sparwood Trails Alliance

Council approved the Trail Grooming and Trail Maintenance Agreements with Sparwood Trails Alliance for a six-year term. Under the grooming agreement, the Alliance will provides seasonal trail grooming services for the Cypress Trail, Power Line and Disc Golf Course Trail, Elk River Trail, and Mountain Shadows Trail from November to March in support of snowshoeing, hiking and fat biking. Under the maintenance agreement, the Alliance will provide seasonal trail maintenance services for the Elk Valley Trail and Mountain Shadows Trail from May to September.

The following meetings will take place in Council Chambers (136 Spruce Avenue) at 6 p.m.
