Sparwood Council Facts
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Nov. 15 District of Sparwood meeting.
DELEGATIONS
Sonny Saad, representing Lilac Terrace, spoke to council about snow removal. This year Lilac Terrace was able to contract someone for snow removal, but as insurance costs have increased, most snow removal contractors have closed their doors. Sonny requested from council that they potentially lease a snow removal vehicle from the district for 2024. Council will discuss further at its Strategic Planning meeting.
BUSINESS
Council Active Projects Update
Staff updated incumbent and new members of council on the status of projects and initiatives that are currently underway or committed, such as: Centennial Plaza, Hot Tub Replacement, Red Cedar hill, and more. Staff responded to council’s questions throughout the presentation. See the district staff report.
2023 Council Meeting Schedule
The Council Meeting Schedule for 2023 was brought forward by Megan Rawles, Manager of Corporate Services, for approval. The first meeting in January was cancelled as per past practice, and the September 17 meeting was cancelled due to a conflict with UBCM Conference. Council approved the schedule as amended and it will be posted online and on the Public Posting Board.
Youth Advisory Commission Appointments
Council approved the recommendations from the Youth Advisory Commission to reappoint Dan Hay, Penny Lowe and Tammy Ogden as community stakeholders; reappoint Neveah Kerkhoven as Youth Commissioner; and appoint Anjola Osasan, Aria Cancela, Jessica Streker, Cassee Gilbert and Addison Charest as Youth Commissioners.

Special Council Meeting – Tuesday, December 6, in Council Chambers at 1 p.m.
Regular Council Meeting – Tuesday, December 6 in Council Chambers at 6 p.m.
