Sparwood Council Facts
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the April 18 District of Sparwood council meeting.
BYLAWS
Financial Plan (2023-2027) and Tax Rate Bylaws
Both the Financial Plan (2023-2027) and Tax Rate bylaws were given their first three readings at council. They will be brought to council at its next meeting for adoption. Read more.
BUSINESS
Community Funding Requests
There were two Category 2 Community Funding requests approved at the meeting. The first request was for $743.78 from the 279 Elk Valley Air Cadets Squadron in support of the 2023 Annual Ceremonial Review. And the second request was for $3,000 to support the 2023 Parkinson’s Charity Golf Tournament on June 3.
Development Variance Permit
The development variance permit DVP2023-002 to decrease the minimum side yard setback from 1.52m to 0.9m to allow for a proposed shed at H11-100 Industrial Rd was approved.

Development Variance Permit Request
Council has authorized staff to issue notice to affected properties of 2100 Middletown Place of its intent to consider the application to reduce the required provision of off-street parking by 44 stalls to accommodate a new McDonald’s development at a future meeting. There will be an informal public hearing scheduled to gather public feedback, which will then be discussed at the following regular council meeting. Read more.
OTHER INFORMATION
Municipal Office Construction
Construction at the Municipal Office will be underway throughout the summer to improve accessibility and safety. The work will necessitate a temporary change to the access of the building, with the south parking lot and front doors being closed, and new public access being on the north side of the building facing Spruce Avenue as outlined in the map below.
