Sparwood Council Facts
The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Nov. 5 District of Sparwood council meeting.
Liquor Licence Application – Sparwood Golf Club
On October 15, District Council reviewed an application submitted by Sparwood Golf Club to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) for a structural change to their liquor licence. The request is to allow the sale of liquor from the clubhouse for consumption on the golf course. Council agreed to consider the application and provide a recommendation to the LCRB. In compliance with LCRB’s community consultation requirements, a public hearing was scheduled.
The public hearing was held, and no submissions were received. At the subsequent meeting, council decided to support the application and recommended approval to the LCRB.
Temporary Use Permit – 601 Sparwood Drive (TUP2024-002)
Kal Tire Distributors Ltd. applied for a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) to place a mobile office in the yard of 601 Sparwood Drive. The applicant intends to place a 10 x 10-foot ATCO trailer to provide workspace for the store administrator. This is a temporary measure until renovations to the existing building can be scheduled. Council reviewed the TUP and granted approval for a 1.5-year period following the public hearing.
Development Variance Permit – 301-2200 Blue Jay Drive (DVP2024-012)
Council authorized staff to notify affected property owners regarding the intent to consider a development variance permit (DVP2024-012) for a deck at 301-2200 Blue Jay Drive. The permit requests a variance to reduce the rear yard setback from 7.62 meters to 4.85 meters. A public hearing for this application was held November 19.
Public Engagement: The public is encouraged to attend upcoming council and committee meetings. Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise stated.
