Sparwood Council Facts
The following is a synopsis of a Special Meeting of Council held by District of Sparwood council Jan. 28.
2025 Draft Operating Budget
On January 28, council held a Special Meeting to discuss the 2025 Operating Budget. During Committee-of-the-Whole, staff provided presentations with regards to their departments and after discussion the committee provided the following direction: reduce Recreation Facility Advisory Committee budget to $70,000; removal of Matevic Slope Stability project budget until more information is available; determine the cost to include Fire Hall #2 in the Fire Hall condition assessment.
Staff will bring the Draft Financial Plan to Council on March 4, and the budget will be on display at the Greenwood Mall from March 5 to 17.

Business signs agreement with Sparwood Chamber of Commerce
The District of Sparwood and the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce entered into an agreement under which the district would pay for the upfront costs to permit and construct business signs along Highway 3 and the chamber would be responsible for selling advertising on and maintaining the signs as well as obtaining general liability insurance on the signs. Total costs for the project were estimated at $53,000 but actual costs totaled approximately $98,900. The agreement was up for renewal and Council approved the renewal of the agreement for 7.6 years to complete the repayment of the full balance.
