Sparwood to gather feedback during Winter Street Party

The District of Sparwood is inviting residents to help decide the future of Centennial Square during the Winter Street Party community engagement event. The party will take place on February 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Square.

Those attending can expect an opportunity to learn and discuss the concept plan and features with council and staff, as well as enjoy a free smokie roast, marshmallows and hot chocolate.

The concept plan was born from an initiative to investigate the revitalization of Centennial Square. Significant community response was provided during discussions and events held in 2019 which sought input on the potential of the space.

“From the feedback received during public consultation, it was noted that most residents wanted to see a useable event space that was attractive and inviting to spend time in. We are excited about the concept plan and that it could meet the needs and vision that the community is looking for,” said Sparwood Mayor David Wilks. “We now have to see if we got it right and are looking forward to hearing what the community has to say. There are a lot of unique features and components of the design that go beyond what meets the eye in the renderings, so we are encouraging everyone to attend and learn about this proposed plan.”

The Winter Street Party is a family friendly, drop-in event and everyone is welcome to attend. In addition to this event, there will be opportunities to provide feedback through a survey and social media.
