UPDATED

Highway 3  has reopened to single lane alternating traffic one kilometre east of Galloway after the South Country Fire Departments responded to a vehicle fire on the highway.

“The fire involves a truck and travel trailer and we currently have six apparatus and 11 firefighters on scene. RCMP and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure are en route,” reported Regional District of East Kootenay communications manager Loree Duczek.

“Both the truck and trailer are a total loss; however, the occupants of the vehicle were all able to get out safely. The fire has been extinguished and crews remain on scene at this time,” Duczek said in a 1:40 p.m. update

At the same time, members of the Hosmer Fire Department were responding to a grass fire call on Dicken Road. The Fernie Fire Department assisted with mutual aid and had a tender and a bush truck responding to the call.

“The grass fire in the Dicken Road area is now out thanks to the quick actions of the Hosmer and Fernie Fire Departments. The cause of the fire is under investigation,” Duczek updated.

More info as it becomes available.
