Champion Nitros sweep weekly KIJHL 3 Stars
Justin Sommer, Cam Reid and Matt Fleet of the Kimberley Dynamiters have been selected the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending April 10.
Justin Sommer – Top Forward
The hometown product had two goals and an assist in the final five games of the KIJHL Teck Cup championship. Sommer’s second goal of the series was the championship-clinching goal as he put away a backhand pass from Tristan Weill. Sommer assisted on the winning goal in Game 3. In Game 6, Sommer scored his second goal of the playoffs to give the Dynamiters a 2-1 lead in what was a 5-2 win against the Princeton Posse.
Sommer finished with three goals and seven points in 23 KIJHL playoff games.
Cam Reid – Top Defenceman
The hometown product had two goals and four assists in five games against Princeton. Reid was named the KIJHL Playoffs Most Valuable Player after he led the drive leading to Sommer’s OT winner in Game 7 to give the Dynamiters the Teck Cup. Reid had an assist in their Game 4, 4-1 loss. In Game 6 had two goals, including the winner, and two assists in the Game 6, 5-2 win. Reid finished the KIJHL playoffs with five goals and 21 points in 23 games, ranking him seventh overall among point producers.
Two of his five goals were game-winners. Reid finished plus-9 against the Posse and plus-18 for the entire playoffs.
It’s Reid’s second Top Defenceman selection of the week in a row and third of the season.
Matt Fleet – Top Goalie
The Calgary product stepped in and played a key part in helping the Dynamiters win the Teck Cup championship. He debuted against the Posse in Game 4, stopping 11 shots faced in 27:04 of action in relief of Trystan Self. In Game 6, he made 27 saves for the win and in Game 7, he stopped 34 shots for the win. In total, he stopped 72 of 76 shots for a 1.48 GAA with a .947 SP. In 11 playoff games, Fleet went 7-2-0 with a shutout, including a 1.91 GAA and a .935 SP.
It’s the second time Fleet is selected as the Top Goalie.
Kimberley is in action this afternoon against the Delta Ice Hawks.
Their next game is Friday, April 14 against host club and fellow KIJHL stable-mates Revelstoke Grizzlies.
