Draft Kimberley Rural OCP presented to public

After months of consultation, the draft of the updated Kimberley Rural Official Community Plan (OCP) is now available for review and comment.

RDEK wall“For the past year we have been working with residents and other stakeholders to review the OCP and get input about their future vision for their community,” said Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) planner Michele Bates. “It is always exciting to be able to present the draft and I am now looking forward to receiving comments on it.”

The draft OCP was unveiled at an Open House Tuesday evening, which was attended by 35 people. It will be posted on the RDEK’s website by the end of the week and the public comment period will be open until mid January.

“If people were not able to attend the Open House, or if they would like additional time to review the draft before making comment, we have a public comment period running until January 11,” added Bates. Comments will be reviewed by the RDEK and will help inform revisions to the draft OCP.

The existing Kimberley Rural OCP was adopted in 2006. OCPs are generally reviewed every five to 10 years to ensure they are current and capture updates that are required.

More information about the Kimberley Rural OCP process can be found on the RDEK’s website at www.rdek.bc.ca.
