Errant bird shuts down power to Kimberley and area

Most Kimberley residents and businesses started their day today without power.

At 8:20 a.m. this morning, power went out for about 5,000 customers in Kimberley, Marysville, Meadowbrook, St. Mary Lake and parts of Wycliffe including the Canadian Rockies International Airport.

“BC Hydro electricians went to the Marysville substation and found a bird had made contact with equipment. The crew made repairs and power was restored at 9:45 a.m.,” reported Sally MacDonald, BC Hydro’s East Kootenay Community Relations director.
