Growing fire under multi-agency attack
The BC Wildfire Service is (August 9) responding to a suspected human-caused wildfire off Stirton Road, near Marysville (Kimberley).
The fire is approximately two hectares in size and is being actively actioned by initial attack and unit crews, with aerial support from air tankers, and ground support from the Kimberley Fire Department.
This fire is not currently threatening communities or structures; however, the fire is visible from Kimberley, Marysville, and Highway 95A. It is expected that smoke may be visible in the area over the next 24 to 48 hours.
Residents are being advised that air tankers may be using St. Mary’s Lake for skimming, the BC Wildfire Service asks that anyone recreating in the area be aware of their surroundings and to be mindful of aircraft working in the area.
St. Mary’s Lake is a popular area and although there is no area restriction or closures required at this time, the BC Wildfire Service advises the public to exercise caution while in the area to allow skimmers to work safely.
