Important open house upcoming

City plans Open House Community Meeting for OCP, proposed Wastewater Treatment Facility and Downtown Strategy

The City of Kimberley invites all community members to learn about three important city initiatives at an open house style community meeting on June 27 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Hall.

Community members can learn more about the Official Community Plan (OCP) Update, the proposed Wastewater Treatment Facility, and the draft Downtown Strategy.

“We decided to combine the three projects to explore and understand the connections between the OCP and two significant infrastructure improvement projects. The draft Official Community Plan provides the long-term vision for how Kimberley wants to grow; City projects like the proposed Wastewater Treatment Facility and the Downtown Strategy will enable us to realize this vision,” said Troy Pollock, Manager, Planning Services at the City of Kimberley.

The purpose of the meeting is to highlight the key changes to the draft Official Community Plan and ask residents for their input on the newly added content.

In addition to this, general information about the proposed Wastewater Treatment Facility and the draft Downtown Strategy will be available for the public to learn more about these upcoming initiatives.

Each of these projects is in different stages; where the OCP is nearly completed, the Wastewater Treatment Facility and the Downtown Strategy are in their infancy at preliminary planning and engineering.

“We are excited to share these projects with the community – which all serve to improve our quality of life now and for future generations,” explained Mayor Don McCormick. “The OCP will help guide our future growth and development, updating the City’s aging sewage treatment infrastructure will improve health and safety, and the Downtown Strategy will support the ongoing enhancement of our city’s core for residents, visitors and local businesses.”

The open house community meeting will be held at Centennial Hall on Tuesday, June 27. There will be no scheduled presentations but multiple personnel will be on hand to share and discuss the projects. Stop by anytime between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.
