Kimberley Council Highlights
Regular Meeting – January 9, 2012
DELEGATION
Colleen Bailey was in attendance and requested an opportunity to address council. She introduced herself as interim chair, Humane Treatment of Urban Wildlife, being a newly formed grassroots East Kootenay organization focused on working with communities on finding humane solutions for urban wildlife management, with active members in Kimberley, Cranbrook and Invermere.
Council referred her presentation to the Urban Deer Advisory Committee and to the Health and Protection Committee for recommendations to council.
Council also agreed to amend the Terms of Reference for the Urban Deer Advisory Committee to increase the total Membership to seven, allowing an increase in number of residents appointed to the committee to five.
BOARD OF VARIANCE
Council received letters of resignation from the three existing members of the Board of Variance – Brent McInnis, Pat Rossi and Earl Chambers, and thanked them for their community service and dedication to the Board of Variance for many years.
NORTHSTAR RAILS TO TRAILS
Council appointed Councillors Hoglund and Oakley as the city council representatives, with Councillor Middlebrook as Alternate, to a joint meeting of the Cranbrook/Kimberley NorthStar Rails to Trails.
CANADIAN HOME BUILDERS’ ASSOCIATION
Council received a letter from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association and extended an invitation to the CHBA to make a presentation to city council at a future meeting.
2% HOTEL ROOM TAX
Council agreed to support the application to Tourism Strategy, Policy & Research, Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation for renewal of the 2% Hotel Room Tax.
BYLAWS
Bylaw No. 2437, “Board of Variance Bylaw No. 2437, 2012” was given first three readings.
“Bylaw No. 2438, City of Kimberley Waterworks Rates and Regulations Bylaw No. 2148, 2022, Amendment No. 7, 2012” was given first three readings.
NEXT MEETING OF COUNCIL
The next meeting of council will be held on Monday, January 23, at 7 p.m.
