Kimberley seeks input on housing focused OCP update

The City of Kimberley is embarking on a housing-focused review and update of its Official Community Plan (OCP) and two Zoning Bylaws. To gather community input, the city has launched a new survey available at www.EngageKimberley.ca, which will play an important role in shaping Kimberley’s future.

The Kimberley OCP, adopted in 2018, outlines the long-term vision for community growth and development, guiding policy decisions. The Zoning Bylaws regulate land use, specifying allowable uses and building forms on parcels. Kimberley has two distinct zoning bylaws: one for the Alpine Resort area and another for all other areas.

This review and update will focus on:

  • Integrating the Housing Needs Report received by council in late fall 2024.
  • Developing policies for housing in commercial nodes and mixed-use developments,
  • Establishing policies for home-based businesses and small-scale commercial uses in residential areas.
  • Reviewing Development Permit Area Guidelines.

It is important to note that non-housing related issues will be addressed in future reviews, the timing of which will be determined after this housing-focused review.

Visit www.EngageKimberley.ca to for more information and to complete the survey. Stay tuned for additional public engagement opportunities, including an open house and focus groups coming soon!
