KIS students up to elbows in worms

Students at Kimberley Independent School (KIS) recently ‘dug in’ as part of Wildsight’s EcoStewards program.

The kids had an amazing morning learning all about worms from the ‘worm lady,’ getting their hands into the worm compost and investigating the worm life cycle.

They then spent the afternoon creating ways to share what they learned with others. One class made drawings of cartoon fruits, veggies and worms to add to the school’s Work Compost Board, while another class wrote down general worm composting facts to add to the board.

EcoStewards is an open and flexible classroom-based program driven by and tailored to each participating teacher and their students as they design, plan and implement projects according to their interests.

“The students and teachers at KIS were all pumped about the project,” said Wildsight educator Patty Kolesnichenko, who coordinated the worm project with the students and will continue to mentor them as they dig deeper.
