MLA Clovechok takes office off the grid

Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Doug Clovechok has gone off the grid.

Clovechok Jan. 8, during a lunchtime gathering at his Kimberley constituency office, unveiled a first for B.C. politicians – a fully off-the-grid office.

“It’s taken two and half years, but I’m off the grid now! I’m very happy to announce that our Kimberley constituency office is the first in B.C., and quite possibly the only constituency office in Canada to run completely off solar power,” Clovechok stated on social media.

“Columbia River-Revelstoke is an amazing place, and Kimberley is just the place to see this type of innovative spirit. This is a community full of entrepreneurial, forward thinking people,” Clovechok said.

He explained that in May 2017, when he began searching for office space, he had the option of selecting 362 Wallinger Avenue.

“The space did not resemble anything like an office; it was a giant storage room. However, our landlord Danny had an amazing vision and I’m proud of the work that’s been accomplished to get our building to a net-zero status.

“To affect change towards a cleaner, healthier environment we must take steps to address what is important to us. Today, we gave Canada another reason to take notice of Columbia River – Revelstoke,” he said.
