Nitros sweep Nitehawks on way to finals
The Kimberley Dynamiters are heading to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) finals after sweeping the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in the Kootenay Conference Finals.
The Nitros will take on the Princeton Posse who also swept their way to the finals, dispatching the Williams Lake Mustangs in four games.
The Dynamiters won games three and four at the Kimberley Civic Centre 3-1 and 5-4 in overtime last night before about 900 onlookers.
Game three was captured on a two-goal effort by Jaden Rusznak (10), while Adam Kisilevich stopped 25 of 26 shots.
“We battled hard and limited our mistakes and were able to lock it down in the third period,” said Dynamiters head coach-general manager Derek Stuart after his club allowed only six shots. “Davies is a warrior. His effort and compete level was excellent.”
Attendance was 1,138 at the Kimberley Civic Centre.

Beaver Valley refused to go down without a fight in game four.
Toren Fron scored the series clinching goal with his third of the playoffs 3:59 into overtime.
“Fronner made up for that penalty late in the third period by going to the net hard,” said Stuart.
Fron had also assisted on the 3-3 goal by Nathan Laforge. Johnny Lozeman had two assists, including on Fron’s winner, while Adam Kisilevich made 24 saves on 28 shots.
Brady Magarrell had two goals and four points for the Nitehawks, setting up Ryan Neufeld’s late tying goal to force overtime. Karsten Hugenholtz made 25 saves for Beaver Valley.
“It was an incredible game,” he said. “Two exhausted teams battling for the fourth time in five days. It’s exciting to be back in the finals, but we’re going to enjoy being Kootenay Conference champions for a few days first.”

The Dynamiters last competed for the league title in the 2022-23 season.
