Nitro’s Trystan Self top netminder in February
KIJHL 3 Stars of the Month: February
Trystan Self of the Kimberley Dynamiters, Jack Henderson of the Osoyoos Coyotes and Cole Waldbillig of the Summerland Steam have been named the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Month for February.
Trystan Self/Kimberley Dynamiters – Top Goalie
The Calgary, Alberta product won all seven of his starts with a .937 SP and a 1.43 GAA. Self made 148 saves on 158 shots and had a 23-save shutout against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Feb. 12. Against Columbia Valley on Feb. 11, he turned aside 29 of 30 shots and of Feb. 26 against Golden, he turned aside 24 of 26 shots.
Self was named the Most Valuable Player for the Eddie Mountain Division and the Top Goalie as he won 22 of the 29 games he played with six shutouts, a .932 SP and a 1.83 GAA.
Jack Henderson/Osoyoos Coyotes – Top Forward
The Quesnel native helped the Coyotes win eight of 10 games, including defeating the Princeton Posse in five games in the first round of the KIJHL Teck Cup Championship. During that 10-game stretch, Henderson scored 11 goals and added 10 assists for 21 points. Prior to the playoffs, Henderson had two three-point games in which he had two goals and an assist against the North Okanagan Knights on Feb. 9 and netted a hat-trick against the Posse on Feb. 18.
In the playoffs against Princeton, he had a goal and three assists on Feb. 26 and a goal and two assists on Feb. 28. Henderson is the KIJHL’s regular season Top Scorer with 32 goals and 65 points in 40 games.
Cole Waldbillig/Summerland Steam – Top Defenceman
The West Kelowna native collected six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 14 games. Against the Princeton Posse on Feb. 8, Waldbillig had two goals and an assist. In their playoff series against the Kelowna Chiefs, Waldbillig had a goal and two assists on Feb. 23 and a goal and an assist against Kelowna on Feb. 25. In 41 games, Waldbillig finished with three goals and 24 points.
He leads the Steam in playoff points with four goals and four assists in five games. Waldbillig was named the Top Defenceman for the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 27.
