Notes from City Hall
Snow and Your Home Venting Systems
In today’s age of high efficiency furnaces and water heaters, there is a now more of a need for clean and unobstructed exhaust vents. Vents can become blocked in the winter months by snow and ice, which in turn can affect the safe operation of the appliance by building carbon monoxide in your home. Take some time to ensure that snow and ice are not obstructing your ventilation systems and ensure that you have a properly functioning carbon monoxide alarm.
House Numbers
House numbers are not only convenient for finding addresses, but are necessary for emergency responders to locate those in need. When responding to an emergency, minutes matter so be sure that house numbers are visible and easy to read from the street.
Did you know the City has a bylaw regarding house numbers? The “Kimberley House Numbering Bylaw, 1981” states that placing house numbers is the responsibility of the homeowner, numbers should be three inches in height and visible from the street. To view the full bylaw, please visit our website http://bit.ly/2It6Hdr.
Moving Parked Cars
The City of Kimberley strives to keep our roads safe for travelling vehicles and pedestrians. Residents also have a role to play in keeping our winter roads safe and serviceable. One way you can help with snow removal in your neighbourhood is to remove your vehicles from the street before plowing takes place. Moving parked vehicles off the streets allows operators to work more efficiently and to clear a wider path to ensure easy access for emergency vehicles.
Dog Etiquette
Please keep your dog on a leash in public places within city limits, including the Rails-to-Trails. There are a few designated off-leash areas within the city, please check out the city website for more information. Remember to pick up your dog’s excrement on all trails, use the bags provided and place it in the receptacles. If you notice the bag holder is empty, contact the Animal Control Officer at 250-427-6460. Please be conscientious of everyone who uses the trails, as no one likes to step in dog poo! Let’s all pitch in to keep our trails clean and clear.
The Peak to Platzl downtown shuttle is a FREE scheduled service between the ski resort base area, the upper-mountain accommodations, and the downtown shops, pubs and restaurants. The shuttle service operates every day (except statutory holidays) until closing weekend of the ski season. On weekdays, for $6 return trip from Cranbrook, you can catch the KC Commuter bus for a worry free day on the slopes!
