Notes from City Hall
The Regular Meetings of City of Kimberley Council for the month of March will be held on Monday, March 11 and Monday, March 25 at 7 p.m. The second Committee of the Whole Meeting on the month will be held on Monday, March 18. All meetings are held in Council Chambers, upstairs at City Hall.
Community Outdoor Revitalization Grant Program
Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) has recently announced a Community Outdoor Revitalization Grant program. The city is seeking to identify an outdoor area and ideas to prioritize for the grant application.
The outdoor space should be one that creates opportunities for our community to interact and gather, and/or upgrades the aesthetics of a space. CBT hopes that their investment will enhance community pride, support a culture of civic engagement, and create a draw for tourism, business retention, and expansion.
More information can be found HERE. Please send your ideas to Scott at [email protected]. These ideas will be compiled and presented to City Council.
House Numbers
House numbers are not only convenient for finding addresses, but are necessary for emergency responders to locate those in need. When responding to an emergency, minutes matter so be sure that house numbers are visible and easy to read from the street.
Did you know the city has a bylaw regarding house numbers? The ‘Kimberley House Numbering Bylaw, 1981’ states that placing house numbers is the responsibility of the homeowner, numbers should be three inches in height and visible from the street. Building Permits & Inspections
Planning a renovation or addition to your home? Dreaming of a new deck or garage? Remember to first obtain a Building Permit before starting your project. The permit and inspection process helps to ensure compliance with health, safety and zoning requirements. Building Permit application forms may be obtained at City Hall or the website. The Building Official can help you navigate the application process and discuss the relevant building code and other municipal requirements. If you have questions about the permit and inspection process, please contact the Building Official at 250-427-9655 or [email protected].
Moving Parked Cars
The city strives to keep our roads safe for travelling vehicles and pedestrians. Residents also have a role to play in keeping our winter roads safe and serviceable. One way you can help with snow removal in your neighbourhood is to remove your vehicles from the street before plowing takes place. Moving parked vehicles off the streets allows operators to work more efficiently and to clear a wider path to ensure easy access for emergency vehicles.
Angle Parking
The city would like to remind residents that angle parking is not permitted in the City of Kimberley, unless otherwise posted. Angle parking impedes snow plowing and narrows the traveled portion of the street, which obstructs the safe passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Thank you for your cooperation.
Pothole Reporting
City crews fix potholes on a regular basis, fitting the work in between other duties. You can help by reporting potholes so we can add them to our list. Be sure to take note of the street address or crossroads nearest the pothole and report it to the Operations Department.
Play field Allocation Meeting
All organizations/groups (baseball, soccer, football, rugby, volleyball, Frisbee, concerts, movies, JulyFest, festivals, events, etc.), requesting to utilize the City of Kimberley play fields in 2019 are to attend the Play field Allocation Meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 at the Kimberley Aquatic Centre.
If you would like to report a pothole or have questions about the Play field Allocation meeting, please contact the Operations Department at 250-427-9660 or [email protected].
