Notes from City Hall

Council Meeting Schedule

The regular meetings of City of Kimberley council for the month of July will be held on Monday, July 8 and Monday, July 22 at 7 p.m. All meetings are held in Council Chambers, upstairs at City Hall. Meetings are reduced to two meetings per month for July and August, with Committee-of-the-Whole Meetings commencing again in September.

Brownbag Lunch with Mayor McCormick

On Wednesday, July 10, and on the second Wednesday of each month, Mayor Don McCormick will host a brown-bag luncheon at City Hall from noon until 1:30 p.m.  Bring your own lunch and have a discussion with the Mayor.

Watering Reminder

Watering must be done between the hours of 4 to 10 a.m. AND 6 to 10 p.m. Residents of properties with odd-numbered addresses will water only on odd-numbered days and residents of properties with even-numbered addresses will water only on even-numbered days. Please view the City’s Water Shortage Response Bylaw for more information: http://bit.ly/2XqHuTQ

Mosquito Control

Mosquitos need water to complete their life cycle.  You can help reduce mosquito populations around your home by following these tips:

  • Remove discarded containers from your property;
  • Replace water in bird baths and livestock troughs regularly;
  • Clean clogged eaves troughs, drain pipes, and ditches;
  • Store boats, canoes or other objects so that they do not collect rain water.

Invasive Weeds

The city would like to remind you that the Unsightly Premises Bylaw states:  “Every owner and occupier of real property shall clear that property and shall keep it cleared of brush, noxious weeds, wild grass and other untended growths.” Blueweed and knapweed are spreading rapidly throughout the City. Let’s do our part to keep invasive species out of our gardens and the Nature Park. Please see the ‘City of Kimberley Unsightly Premises Bylaw No. 1872, 1995 at www.kimberley.ca/city/bylaws.

Building Permits & Inspections

Planning a renovation or addition to your home? Dreaming of a new deck or garage? Remember to first obtain a Building Permit before starting your project. The permit and inspection process helps to ensure compliance with health, safety and zoning requirements. Building Permit application forms may be obtained at City Hall or the website. The Building Inspector can help you navigate the application process and discuss the relevant building code and other municipal requirements. If you have questions about the permit and inspection process, please contact the Building Inspector at 250-427-9655 or [email protected].
