Open house on student reporting Nov. 7 at McKim
Parents, mark Monday, Nov. 7 on your calendars and get ready to share your thoughts on student progress reporting, including report cards, for an upcoming community meeting hosted by the Ministry of Education.
Join ministry staff and school district officials at McKim Middle School (689 Rotary Dr., Kimberley) on Nov. 7 to learn more about this province-wide engagement and provide thoughts on student progress reporting in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms.
The open house runs between 5 and 7 p.m. Parents and interested community members can learn more about B.C.’s new curriculum and fill out a feedback form about preferences on student progress reporting.
A facilitated discussion will take place between 7 and 8 p.m., giving parents the opportunity to participate in small group sessions discussing their thoughts in greater detail.
While this public meeting will be primarily of interest to parents of K-to-9 students, all British Columbians and community groups are welcome to attend.
Parents who are unable to attend the meeting can still learn about the process and share their thoughts online by visiting HERE until Feb. 28, 2017.
This is the second of 11 community meetings being held throughout the province as part of the B.C. government’s province-wide engagement to better understand how parents want to be informed of their student’s progress.
This engagement supports B.C.’s new curriculum, which is designed to help improve student achievement and success. The curriculum provides a flexible and innovative plan to help B.C. students gain the knowledge and skills they need for the jobs of tomorrow, a Ministry of Education press release noted.
“We need to keep up with today’s changing world and ensure our students are well prepared for the jobs of the future. Parent input is vital to the development of a new provincial student reporting approach. The feedback we receive from the community meetings and online form will help shape us create a student reporting process that gives parents a deeper understanding of their child’s progress,” said Mike Bernier, Minister of Education.
