Protect livestock and fruit trees from bears

Life in the East Kootenay means living alongside bears.

Human-bear conflicts remain an ongoing issue in the region and there are always ways to cut down on such conflicts.

An upcoming workshop, tomorrow (Saturday, June 23) in Marysville, will look at a way to help curb impacts to livestock and fruit trees from bears.

An Electric Fencing Workshop is being held at Marysville Eco-Park, from 10 a.m. to noon, led by Gillian Sanders, who has homesteaded in rich bear habitat for 16 years without bear conflicts.

She has helped to install more than 40 electric fences to effectively protect chickens, fruit trees, honeybees, goats, pigs, sheep, and calves from both black and grizzly bears.

This workshop will discuss different e-fencing designs for permanent and temporary fences that can be adapted to your particular needs.
