Descheneau recorded 15 points in four games, scoring seven goals with eight assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

He collected four straight multi-point games last week helping the sixth place ICE eliminate the third place Calgary Hitmen in six games of the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Eastern Conference first round playoff series.

In Game 3 of the series last Monday, Descheneau tied a career-high with six points scoring a goal with five assists and was named the game’s first star despite a 7-6 overtime loss to the Hitmen.

The ICE won the final three games of the series including a 5-4 victory in Game 4 last Tuesday where Descheneau scored the game-winner in the final minute of regulation and added an assist to earn first star honours for the second straight game.

In Game 5 on Thursday night he scored twice including the game-winner plus an assist as second star of the 6-5 win, then finished the series earning first star honours again with a hat-trick plus an assist in the 5-3 victory in the Game 6 series finale.

Descheneau, a 19-year-old from Edmonton, Alta., is playing in his third WHL season with the ICE. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft, Descheneau finished the regular season tied for sixth in league scoring with 98 points in 70 games including 44 goals and 54 assists. He is currently tied for the WHL lead in playoff scoring with 17 points in six games, along with linemate Sam Reinhart, as the ICE prepare for their second round playoff series against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Also considered for the award this week was Frederick Gaudreau who scored seven goals and two assists for nine points in three games for the Drummondville Voltigeurs in their first round QMJHL Playoff series win over the Victoriaville Tigres, and Vancouver Canucks prospect Dane Fox who scored three goals and five assists for eight points in three games last week for the Erie Otters in their first OHL Playoff series win over the Saginaw Spirit.
